I Was Not A Fan of Michael Jackson

Instead, I present to you a really really REALLY noisy 12 minute-long garage rock song from France Japan. If you like noise music and 60’s garage rock you will probably like the first 5 minutes of it and then wonder why anyone would play that bass riff for 12 minutes straight.

Michael Jackson, R.I.P. Seriously. Please.

He was missed even before he died.

He was missed even before he died.

This was never the way it was supposed to end. One of music’s undeniable giants has passed on, leaving us for his reward in (fill in your own destination here). I won’t lie, my nose is running a little bit right now, and I think it may be sadness related. In Memoriam, I’d like to post a couple of songs that have been with me through some good times and also some other times that were pretty good too.

RIP Michael Jackson

According to early reports, Michael Jackson has suffered a cardiac arrest today in his home in California. He was dead upon the arrival of paramedics. Despite the questionable personal choices Jackson may have made in his lifetime, he was a musical pioneer and genius. Pop music is more indebted to him than could easily be put into words, so we’ll let Michael show you himself.

If You Like It, Have It.

I WILL turn this into a car blog.

I WILL turn this into a car blog.

While it may be exciting and all to break releases like E-603’s long-awaited new album, let’s go back in time for something less fresh but no less delicious. In that spirit I’m bringing DiscoTech‘s remix of Whatever You Like by T.I. to you this post. Be sure to crank your bass before you start it up, and strap yourself in for four and a half minutes of high-quality synth that nestles T.I.’s lyrics like the cockpit of an F-1 racer. Hopefully you’ve had this one stressing your speakers since last year, but if not, welcome to the club.

Whatever You Like (DiscoTech Remix) – T.I. ft. Rihanna (YSI)

And here’s a little bonus track, not really worth its own post, but a really fun listen. Remember D.A.N.C.E? There were so many mashups of it that I don’t actually recall what the original sounds like, and yet I still like this song. Thanks to Sebwax for this slick A+B.

Africa, this is Morningside Heights. Morningside Heights, Africa.

Too cool for school.

Too cool for school.

It seems like this week’s theme at the Show has been updates on our favorite artists from 2008, which I can promise you isn’t going to stop soon. At all. But today’s bulletin features an artist I had (admittedly) forgotten about quite completely after I stopped listening to his debut mixtape: Esau Mwamwaya. He’s back, with another collaboration with Vampire Weekend, albeit this time just with VW frontman Ezra Koenig (mugshot above). This retains everything that made Mwamwaya’s reworking of Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa a gem: namely, his ability to give Vampire Weekend the icing on their Graceland-flavored cake. And this time, it’s better than ever.

This dude wants to own a gun. He creates bangers. He is blowing my mind. IS THE METAPHOR CLEAR?

I have something for you. Something you might want. Something that, if you are Marquis Meowmers IV, you have wanted for almost a year now. I have E-603’s sophomore effort. I am listening to it RIGHT NOW. It is called Torn Up and it is on my speakers. Like, now. And if you want to get at some sick TRACKS as well as my initial thoughts you should click the link and MAKE THE FUCKING JUMP.

Don’t Get Too Comfortable

This will make more sense in a minute

This will make more sense in a minute

I have no air conditioning. This is kind of a drag, because the best I can do is move outside-temperature air around me with fans and drink cold adult beverages all day. Not so bad, right?

I live in Houston. The Houston that’s in TEXAS.
